The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE), established in 2011, is the lead federal agency responsible for improving safety and protecting the environment in the U.S. offshore energy sector, focusing on oil and natural gas operations on the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS). BSEE enforces regulations on worker safety, emergency preparedness, environmental compliance, and resource conservation through inspections, technological advancements, and the implementation of Safety and Environmental Management Systems (SEMS).
Headquartered in Washington, D.C., with regional offices in Anchorage, Camarillo, and New Orleans, BSEE works to drive industry-wide safety improvements and rapid incident response. By focusing equally on safety, environmental stewardship, and resource conservation, BSEE ensures the offshore energy industry meets its responsibilities with rigor and innovation.
